History of Pizza

The pizza made its first apperence in the United States by Italian immagrants in the late 19th century.
The current pizza consists of a flat round dough base, with a tomato sauce spread across it, cheese is then laid
over the sauce and a topping of choice is then added. It looks similar to the picture to the right.

Development:

Film Festival Research

This page is about limited colours for the posters e.g. only have 2-3 colours. This method is one of my favourite because not much is required to make the poster effect the viewer well. For example if the poster is filled up with to much infomation and images it will not catch people's eyes as much as posters with limited things on it. Out of all of these images my most favourite one is the poster in the middle at the bottom, this is because the colours they have chosen represent horror very well. E.g. red represents evil and blood, and black can represent the unkown. Also using a forest works well because a forest can represent you being alone with no one near by to help. My least favourite one is the one on the bottom left, this is because I think that the imagery does not represent horror, however the colours go together well.

This page is about the genera im going to be doing my poster on, the page is on horror. This page uses alot of thing what people would resemble with horror as a background e.g. Zombies. Therefore this gets the idea across fairly easly that this is a horror poster because of the viewer being able to quickly understand what it is about. Out of the 6 images my favourite one is the first one, this is because it does not use alot to get the point across. the fingers in a rectangle represents someone recording somthing or a screen, and having the fingers cut off represents horror. Therefor making it an effective poster.

This page is about photography. I think that photography is a good choice for horror posters this is because it give the feel that the horror is real and that you should be scared. Unlike hand drawn posters which makes it not so much scary because of it not being real therefore not have as good of an effect on the viewer.  Out of the 6 images chosen i think that the best one is the first image. This is because it feels the most real out of the lot and also creates a scary atmosphere therefore catching my attention more.

This page is about typography of film posters, these are very simple but also very effective. A lot of these are done using templates of an object like a knife in the bottom left and the text is used to fill the shape. This is effective because only part of the page have been filed so it draws your attention to the main part of the image, and the main part usually represents horror very well. My favourite one out of the 6 is the one at the top and the right. This is because the way the popcorn is laid out represents someone being scared and jumping at a film.

Mood board 1 - Font

Mood board 2 - Typography
Mood board 3 -Photography

Mood board 1 - Hands

This mood board is about one of the key visuals in my posters. I have chosen these because my chosen idea for a final design is a hand reaching out of the ground with a gravestone behind it and these would help me with an idea of how I could draw it.  This page gives also gives different example of the style, of how i could design the hand. Out of the images above the one I like the most is the 4th image along at the top, this is because the hand is very basic and easy to design, however it still looks appealing.
For the design of the hand I am going to draw the image onto paper then scan it over to the computer, then trace over my outline. After I will work with it in Illustrator to design the hand, then Photoshop to add shading or other effects.
The colours that I would like to choose is a dark greenish colour this is because green skin would represent rotting or dying. This would allow people to understand that its a horror.

Mood Board 2 - Art Style

This mood board is about similar art styles that I might draw my poster in. I have chosen these design because I think that the style is very effective and eye catching. Also I like this style a lot and I think it would go well with my poster design the best.

Mood Board 3 - Gravestones

This mood board is about gravestone, this mood board is made to give me an idea of different shapes and sized gravestones to include with my poster. This also allows me to find out what images will look best with the style I have chosen and will look the best with the other visuals.

                                                            Mood Board 4 -

This mood board is for my typography poster I will be designing. I have chosen to have one of the letters giant and inside the letter to part of an image. I like this design a lot because of how it uses the negative space on the page to draw your attention to a specific spot on the page. Also i have chosen to use this because the viewer is unable to see the whole image therefore leaving the viewer to imagine what else is going on.

Poster design ideas

Evaluation

During this part of the unit we designed 2 festival posters for a chosen event one image heavy and one typography heavy. The event I chosen was to do a horror film festival.
During the process of this unit I have developed my skills a lot in illustrator and understand how to use it better and I can understand the colour theory better. I also understand that using to much information on a poster will cause people to not want to read it and lose their attention.
I developed my initial idea by looking at many different horror posters and thought about things that can resemble horror. I then found out that a lot of the horror posters did not have much description about the festival just the title and sometimes a few words to describe it. Once I have gather some research about some posters I designed 6 poster ideas, 3 of them are image heavy and the other 3 are typography heavy. Out of the 6 I chose 2 designs and finalised them so I could scan it onto the computer and add colour and effects.
In the image based poster I made several changes from the final design the things I changed are the position of the text and the layout of it. I chose to do this because the text will look out of position in the top corner, so I moved it onto the gravestone and changed the position to fit right. I also experimented with different fonts to see what will look best with the new layout and the style of everything else and this font suited it the best.
In the typography poster I have decided to use a dark grey as the background and red for the H, this is because it makes the H become the focus of the picture and causes you to look at it first. Also I have used little information on the poster because it makes the poster easy to understand rather the filling the page with un needed information.
Some of the problems that accrued were that I have some problems with illustrator like not being unable to fill or add effects that I wanted. But as I used the programme more I managed to understand it better and resolved the problem. Another problem I come across is that I done some of my poster design at home, but when I emailed it to my self I was unable to open it in college and had to restart the poster.
I would rate my typography post a 6 out of 10 this is because you can understand that it’s a horror poster and the focal point of the poster allows you to understand this. Also there is little information on the page this makes the poster easy to read and understand. The image based poster I would rate it a 7 out of 10 this is because the effects and colouring chosen make it have an eerie feel to it.

Changes i made-

My final Poster designs

Design Report

I have enjoyed designing this posters a lot. Once I created my first two final poster designs i was not happy with what I created. So what I did to change it was I coped the first final design I did and pasted it 6 times on a illustrator page. I then changed each pasted image a lot to see how I could improve the poster. I started with the Typography poster and I decided to add more hands into the H to see if it will make it look better, it improved it, but I was not satisfied with the first result. I then decided that I will change the background and remove the hand, I liked this image and though it creates a good effect and feel for a horror poster. On the other poster designs I changed the style of the hand and the idea of the poster overall. My second favorite one is the third one along, this is because there is not much on the page but the background with the blood smeared suits the poster well, and the style of the hand makes it look better.
For my Image based poster I did the same thing to try and improve the  poster but instead of 6 I chose to do 3. This is because I though that this poster did not need much more improving, but I could still make it better. On the first image I decided to tilt the gravestone to see how it would look and add a gradient to the background and mud. I think this make it feel more eerie then before. One the next image i decided to have the gravestone broken in half to give the impression of destruction. I decided to use this one as my final design but I still think that I need to use the space better but im not sure on what to do to fill the gap. On the final design idea I added more gravestones and the hand is missing its little finger I like this idea because I filled the page better, but i decided not to use it.
I would rate my typography based poster a 7 out of 10. I still feel like I need to experiment with colours more or completely change the idea to try and improve it. The other poster I would rate it an 8 out of 10 I like this poster But I feel i could add more to feel the page better to make it more appealing to the eye.
